The Lumiverse
Lumi, 2019-2021
From 2018-2021, I worked on the content team as the web and visual designer at Lumi, focusing on the logged-out experience of the site. Lumi is a software that connects brands looking for packaging to packaging suppliers and experts all over the world.
My work at Lumi covered a lot of ground — our team was small (but mighty!) so I wore a lot of hats. My role was to make niche industry information more available and digestible, while staying true to the design guidelines we had developed over the years. This involved a range of skills, including research, information architecture, experience design, hiring and managing contractors, art direction, and web development, to name a few.
The goal
Create a set of assets that can be used around the site, to unify the Lumi brand identity. We wanted to use non-packaging images to remind customers that Lumi is a software platform that connects brands with suppliers, not a manufacturer of packaging.
The project
I worked with Scotland-based artist Charles Young to create a supply chain world out of folding carton. I sent him a folder of inspiration images with a list of things to build, including 10 unique factories, a fork lift, a cargo ship with removable shipping containers, a gantry crane, a recycling center, wind turbines, and a few trees.
Once we had the factories, I photographed each of them from multiple angles to create reusable assets that we used throughout the site.
I also created small vignettes incorporating lighting to show different time (bright direct light for light mode, lights on inside the buildings for dark mode) and stop motion.
